Ashley School of Motoring - Short Notice Tests

If you need a short-notice test, I can help.   Sometimes, for all sorts of reasons, we have to do things with little or no notice and as a driving instructor, I accept this.   If you are in this situation and require an instructor to take you for your driving test, it is worth reading this information so you know what I require from you.

Assessment
You will be required to come out with me for an assessment drive.   This will take between an hour and an hour and a half at the normal hourly rate.   I need to be satisfied that you are safe and at an acceptable standard to take your test and you will be expected to perform all the required manoeuvres, including the emergency stop.   During the assessment I will give you some indication of whether I consider your driving to be of an acceptable standard.   If it is not, then I will decline to either lend you my car or accompany you to test.   There is no obligation on me to do so and any agreement to take you on as a pupil does not commit me to do so.   In addition, I may require you to take additional lessons prior to your test.   Failure to do so may mean that I will decline to take you for test.   Having said all that it is relatively rare that I find it necessary to refuse a test attempt; most of the time tests go ahead.

Pricing
All short notice lessons and test time are charged at my normal hourly rate.   In addition to any lessons taken, test day will be charged at 3 hours.   This is to allow for an hour pre-test lesson, travel to and from the test centre and the test time itself.   It also allows for any administration charges incurred to accommodate your test.

Honesty
This might seem a very strange heading but, having encountered problems in the past, I feel it is worth mentioning.   I will inevitably ask about your driving history and your reasons for taking a short-notice test.   Be honest with me!   I don't care if you have taken 15 tests and your current instructor has refused to take you for test because he feels you're not ready.   I DO care if you lie and tell me you've only taken 1 test and your instructor is not available - and I will check!   Complete honesty really is the best policy.   If you do lie, you may well jeopardize my agreement to help or, at the very least, see the price increase.
